I'm off to Wanaka today for some boarding antics. I bought a new board this year and am keen to try it out even with all my injuries (I must be the most accident-prone sporty person). I've never been on the southern slopes but am a regular at Whakapapa on Mt Ruapehu. Checking the weather there is a huge low coming over and hitting the 1st 2 days of the trip so I've packed a bag full of knitting projects - the Debbie Bliss easy Raglan Sweater, a bag and pile of hats for the stall. It's such a terrible Catch-22: hoping for good weather to board but wishing for bad weather to knit!! A trip to the snow encourages beanie knitting too and I whipped up 5 hats in anticipation - photos to come.
Here is a nice mountainy photo from Easter '06 and shows me, my cousin Sam and Uncles Rob & Craig at the top crater on Mt Ruapehu . Just to the left you can see a tiny hut - very cute & Swiss-ie. Behind us to the right is the crater lake which had the huge lahar this year. What you can't see it in front of us are several tents - people were actually sleeping up there!
